Department of Justice
(DOJ) Secretary Agnes VST Devanadera announced
today that the most wanted man involved in
extra-judicial killings is currently being
detained by the Philippine Army.
Presidential Task Force Against Political
Violence or more commonly called TF-211 worked
on the search for Wilfredo Layug.
Task Force head DOJ Undersecretary
Ricardo R. Blancaflor said Wilfredo
Layug Jr. alias Ka Bong, also
uses the following names –Virgilio
Layug, Wilfredo T. Yumul and Leodegardo Yumul
Jr. A
Private First Class of the Philippine
Army, he was arrested by the
Provost Marshall Office, AFP.
Layug is charged with eight
extrajudicial killings involving
militants and political activists that are based
mostly in Region 3 (Central
Luzon). He has six pending warrants of
arrest.
Layug is
presently being processed by the
Provost Marshall’s Office for a number of
military offenses for which he is also charged
with. After the processing,
the
National Bureau of Investigation of the
DOJ will serve the six
outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Secretary
Devanadera expressed the department’s gratitude
to the Philippine Army for the latter’s
cooperation in the arrest of Layug.### |
